Title: Tulip bulbs split into four? something wrong?
Post by: LivvyW on July 01, 2009, 22:23
A question on behalf of my mum.

She got a present of wonderful big fat tulip bulbs from Amsterdam. No idea what type.

She had to dig them up to store them (needed the container) and she says they have split into four, there is no longer the big fat bulb, just four small ones.

Can anyone shed any light on the subject?

Tulips reproduce by growing small bulbs called offsets, and then the main bulb dies away, leaving these to grow to maturity. Sounds like this might be what you have. You can grow them on and they should flower.

Hopw this helps  :D
