Cleaning the hen house.

Well I'm about to tackle the dump of a hen house I inhertied.

I've shovelled out about a quarter ton of poop and it looks the same! I'm doing it a bit at at time so not to spook the chucks.

When I finally get it all out, whats best to wash it out with? Also should I dust for bugs to be safe?

I intend to put straw down on the floor once it cleaned up.

I'm no expert on wooden coops cudders (plastic for me). I'll leave others to anser this one for you.

Gave my coop and run a thorough clean today. Took me 30 mins

just get in and clean it out completly if ya done ur giving the bugs chance to move onto fresh bedding ... clean it out wash it out treat for mites n such .then put new bedding in

Hi Cudders, what a messy job! I'd proabaly blitz the shed with Jeyes first after I'd scrapped everything out, then would absolutely soak every nook and cranny with something like Poultry Shield - for any lurking red mite. Personaly in my sheds I use Stalosan a dry powder disinfectant that absorbs odour then a few inches deep of woodshavings. I only use straw for the nest boxes not the floor as it is quite hard to check if dry and and can harbour bugs. Finally I sprinkle red mite powder in the nest boxes as an added precaution.But I am sure others may do differently! Good luck
