No eggs today??
« on: January 05, 2012, 18:42 »

Came in tonight from work, did the usual rounds.. feeder, water a general check and discovered there were no eggs laid today!

Checked again, this time turning over the coop to make sure they haven't buried any, still nowt.  :(

Should I be worried? I've never had them all at once not lay, I've got at least one egg a day. I know it can tail off over the winter, but would they completely stop, all together?

the weather can have an effect on them  :)
Staffies are softer than you think.

How many do you have - what age and what type (hybrids or pre breed?). All these factors can affect production - I have 8 - all ages and types. At the moment I get between 1-4 each day - but occasionally none. All that will change once the days get brighter and warmer. I wouldn't be too worried.

We got 5 hybrids that are two years old now, maybe / could they, all at the same time go into moult?

None of them have moulted, or even partial moulted since we got them either.

Many chooks often moult so gradually that you don't notice especially when they are younger which yours are. :)

They can just stop it is nothing to worry about just be patient. :)
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!

I have my suspicions about that with my Light Sussex at the mo, every day there's 3 or so 'new' feathers floating around the run that weren't there the day before...

Hi I too am facing this issue for the first time and it is quite alarming.  I have 4 hybrids and they have all suddenly just stopped laying just before New Year and nothing since.  Its getting desperate now as I may have to buy some eggs!!!

Go three eggs today  , but they seemed more 'pointy' than usual  , or it's just me probably  :nowink:.

Think I'll watch and wait to see what happends, and I just got to try and remember who lays what/which egg now.  ::)
