Garvo feeds
« on: January 22, 2011, 21:53 »
When people praise Gravo are they talking about layer pellets or layer mash  or Alphamix.. the mash and alphamix obviously looks tastier and more up my girls street but is there any draw backs, i presume you dont need to add pellets?  whats the differences between mix and mash

(Ipromise all my beginner questions will end soon) lol

mash and pellets are the same it's just that the mash is compressed into pellet form and is easier and less messy to feed. Garvo is a brand of feed and not only do they do layers pellets they also do breeders pellets (as do fancy feeds) and special show stock pellets all have different quantities of protein and vitamins etc. Whatever you feed your chickens on always choose a quality known brand and always check the use by date on them as the vitamins can deteriorate.
Staffies are softer than you think.

Both are Good, Pellets have Less wastage, We have used Everything from chick Starter, chick crumb, Growers, and their Layers Pellets.

After Raising chicks On Farmgate And Allen and Page Crumb and Growers, and then raising chicks on Garvo chick starter, crumb and Growers, the difference that we personally found in feathering, and growth was amazing!, Garvo Is Quite Expensive though. The other foods are all Pretty good, but if your willing to pay the Extra Garvo is certainly worth it (in our opinion anyway) we cant recommend it enough.
I now have the chicken bug woot i love the Poland's

I only have three girls so luckily i wont need to buy in bulk so i dont mind paying a bit more (ask my husband about what brand my cats have lol that would prove my point spoilt animals here lol)

There is a stockist in Boston and i have to take my little boy to Boston hospital in a few weeks so think i will pick some up then.

If you just want back garden layers and pets buy the pelleted feed intended for layers don't get the fancy feed for showing birds.  While Garvo may produce lots of specialist feeds for showing which will give good feathering, layers should be fed low energy feed which will keep them foraging, active and happy.  That way they don't develop boredom habits because they are overfed, lazy and don't need to be proper chickens scratting about for their food.
