I assume they are POL chooks and just starting to lay?
So based on this assumption, yes when they first start to lay they are small, we call them pullit eggs but they will increase in size as the bird gets older, I have two Blackrocks that started on Sunday, compare these eggs to my old girls and its like comparing duck eggs with chook eggs.

I have 3 hybrid chickens and they are about 18months old, they have been laying really well - never stoped last winter - they are fed on layers pellets and this is supplemented with fresh food, both kitchen scraps and from free ranging, they love spaghetti and sunflower hearts.  When it is cold I give them warm mash.

I used Beards garden mix on my chooks. Had small eggs , intermittent egg laying and pecking problems. now in the last 3weeks changed to layer pellets. 3 good size eggs every day. So it may be what you are feeding them. Good luck.

Well henkeeper your girls sound as if they are at the right age for laying decent sized eggs. These tiny quail egg sized ones are called wind eggs and they are usually associated with the start or end of a laying season. As your girls are 18 month old you will find that their egg production will slow and even possibly stop completely as the nights draw in. You then should see lots of eggs coming as soon as the days start to get longer. Don't worry it's all perfectly normal it gives their bodies a rest and the strength to deal with the cold months ahead. The food you are giving them sounds just fine although make sure that the main feed they get is their layers pellets and all the rest are an optional extra.

thanks for all advice everyone - I read that hybrids are very prolific in their first year and then tail off - they certainly have been laying almost every day for the last year.  I have just invested in a bigger house and run so will now be getting 3 more ladies to supplement my shortfall!! then may be some decorative bantams in the old house, and then maybe a duck .... my family despair of me!!!!
