Wonder if anyone can help.....  I have 12 Ex batts. I went out to see them earlier on and alas I found  one dead.  It had a hole in it's backside and the other hens were having a good old peck at it.  Has anyone got any idea of what could have happened......She has up until now been in good health........

Most birds have a hole round the back    Do you mean that it was a bigger area than normal or looked like some of the insides had popped out

Sadly Ex bats have had a very busy short life and it's not unusual for them to die suddenly

The hole was large and it looked like an open wound, could have possibly lost some insides......None of the other hens look like this........

It sounds to me like your describing a prolapse Has their been any very big eggs or eggs with blood on prior to the hen dying?
