Eggs due to hatch
« on: May 25, 2009, 19:22 »
Hi guys

Our first batch of eggs are due to hatch tomorrow.  This is our first time doing this, we just wondered when do you start hearing the pipping sounds and also do many go over the 21 days or as a general rule is it 21days?

Hi
you can hear pipping anything from 19 days onward, and I have some still hatching at 23 day's, try not to open the incubator too much ( no matter how tempting ) as you will lose the humidity and they will dry out. good luck

Good luck I am on day 4.

Hello! when you say pipped do you mean internally ie: you hear cheeping or that there is a small hole in the egg??? I had one that took over 24 hrs from making the first hole! is your humidity at about 60% or more! otherwise they will dry out and stick to the shell in which case may need help!! what day are you on now?????
thinks her guardian angel`s gone on strike !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi yeah the humidity is ok at min.

Sorry I ment pipped as in got there beak outside the shell.

I have had two get totally out of the shell and die.  And one little one whi is tiny seems to have trouble standing up and its eyes are still shut?
Today is day 23.

When would i give up on the following eggs? I still have about 10 which have no signs of cracking or anything as yet?

I had 2 eggs left that had done nothing by day 23 I made a small hole in the blunt end of the eggs before binning them just to make sure i wasnt throwing away live babies! but they had died without hatching! the little one that cant stand up are its legs sticking out to the sides??? if so it may have spraddle leg, 1 of mine has that (it is the tiniest and last to hatch) i have put a plaster cut length ways to hold its legs together!! If it just looks very weak a little sugared water could help it get the energy it needs to start feeding!!
Personally if I still had babies half out/pipped with no progress on day 23 ( i am still new to this) i would try to help, by carefully picking away at the shell! if it starts to bleed though leave well alone! keep the humidity high
Good luck

If its definately day 23, make the hole big enough! (as long as no bleedy!) so you can look inside! im afraid they are probably not gonna hatch now but I just needed to be sure!!!

Hi guys

We have 6 chicks out of 24 eggs.  Is that a good result or rubish?  The other eggs where all full with fully formed chicks but they all seemed to have a huge air pocket and were all dead in the shells.  Can anyone shed a light on what ive done wrong.  I kept humidity and temperature correct all way through?
