not sure on the sex of the chicks or if it's possible to even sex them this young. They're 2 weeks and were waiting for me just up the road from our feed store! feeding well on growers. just scattered it though as that's what the former owner did, is this right?
Should they have anything else? other than water - and is it ok them being on grass?
The plan is for them to live in the little henhouse inside the run, and to put their little run in there in a couple of weeks so they see the other girls. Will they be able to live together in time?

Buffy (new buff chook from yesterday) has settled well with my girls and they're best friends! really great news as they slept together last night - am hoping my girls will show Buffy the way tonight now - she perched under the henhouse last night - i had to fish her out! lol

bit young for growers best to give them chick crumb (higher in protein) till 6-8 weeks. As long as the grass is cropped very short should be OK.

vember i can match you.. just! lol if you count the time i picked up the hen and cock yesterday not the time i arrived home! lol

Will get some crumb tomorrow.. had growers in my head.. when do i use growers?

For tonight is there anything in my cupboard i can give them? have porridge etc but can't see this being better.

They are adorable and make me all mushy! lol

oh and will get the lawn mower out tomorrow.

Feed crumbs until about 6-8 weeks old Then go on to Growers

Just looking in book home made recipe is uncooked oatmeal in a blender to make it small and 50/50 cornmeal But say's not to use too long.

I think I'd go with the oats and if you can grind up the growers to make it more manageable, I can't see it doing any harm just for now.

And just realised.. i can't count - today brings it to 6 chooks in 24 hours! lol silly me!!

Thinking of tucking the little uns in shortly.. will go and give them tea first though.

All tucked up safe and sound, needless to say not very happy being handled, but i'm sure they'll learn that i won't hurt them in time.

They are just soooo cute I want to sit and cuddle them like guinea pigs! lol

i'll forgive you Vem, seeing as i've only got 29 left i think i hold the record for losing the most in a couple of hours never mind a day.

aww TMG you gave them some freedom that they'd more than deserved, hope you don't regret having them all. ((hugs)) you still have top Kudos for that many in one car!
I can't even convince my hubby to let me have ex-batts let alone 60.. mind you we are a standard house with a standard garden.

Got drenched this morning making a lean to shelter for the silkie and chicks.. they have a dog carrier in the run for shelter from wet underfoot and some kitchen doors leaned against and over the run for shelter.. bushes to either side - not bad considering.

Even the 3 big uns are hiding under the shelter eating this morning it's THAT wet!  :?
