Hi, i know a few people on here use these - can you help. I got one three days ago but did not pay much attention to the instructions and have now lost them. I put the powder in the bag added about a pint and a half of warm water and then shook it up, i then put the red top on and hung it up in a sunny place.
Problem is it has only caught 2 flies    did i do something wrong or do they take time to become active. There is quite a layer of undissolved powder at the bottom is that correct or should i try to stir it to dissolve more. There are plenty of flies about
All these moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

Thanks  Kim  you're a star  :D
It says that bait takes time to activate so hopefully it's still going to be curtains for those flies

Update - My red top flykiller now has many hundreds of dead flies in - i honestly didn't think there were that many about. It took about 7 or 8 days to become active, i think the cold nights slowed it down. Supposedly the bait usually becomes active in about 4 days but is affected by cold temps.

So if anyone has a few too many flies around their hens i would definitely recommend one  :D

Got mine off Ebay.

I've read that people say it's very smelly.
Would it be too smelly to use in a garden? - we have neighbours at the bottom of the garden too.

Glad it worked for you - I'm a big believer in e-bay  :D

Does this help stop flies coming into the home? We're surrounded by fields with livestock & the flies are driving me mad in the kitchen - though I'm getting faster with the good old-fashioned fly swat!

I've got to top mine up today as the there is virtually no water left that hasn't got dead flies in it.

Not looking forward to getting close to it and taking the top off.

It certainly seems effective but it hasn't eliminated the flies coming into the house altogether but its a lot better than it was.
It does smell terrible, but only when you are within a few feet of it.

I just ordered one off ebay yesterday...why do they smell so bad?  Is it so that the smell atracts the flies? or is it whatever kills them?  what does kill them?

I'm sure all these questions and more will be answered when it arrives.

They only smell really bad when they are full with flies and they start decomposing.
I topped mine up yesterday and expected it to smell vile and it really wasn't too bad. Must have had 3" of flies in it.

Lovely sunny day today, but must admit though while pottering around in the garden i must have wasted a good half hour watching the flies buzzing round my red top

Did notice though that it is beginning to whiff.
