Our old Calder Ranger (6+ years) prolapsed this morning, and lost quite a lot of blood in the process. We pushed the prolapse back inside and put Preparation H on it, then separated her from the flock. She's perching now, and has passed a lash and some more blood.

Is there anything else we can do, or is euthanasis the only option? (If we take her to our non-specialist vet, he'll only put her down.)

She is probably nearing the end of laying. If it kept occuring and the others were taking interest in the bleeding and she was going off feed I would cull. If she seems fine, then hopefully she will stop trying to lay.

Oh I do feel for you.  Hate to say it but I do think a quick death wou lodge the right thing.  Unless you can see a way out???

In the end, I bathed her in Epsom salts, pushed the prolapse back in and treated her with more Preparation H. This morning, she seemed perky enough and is eating and drinking. There's been no more blood. So I'll just keep my fingers crossed now and hope she's ok.
