Dead chicken
« on: August 11, 2014, 06:56 »
Two days ago I saw that one of our black hens (about 1 year old) was looking a bit of colour.  She was sitting on the floor with one wing outstretched.  I thought maybe she had hurt herself.  Later that day she had perked up and seemed fine.  Yesterday afternoon when I went to collect the eggs - she was dead!  No marks on her at all.
Now what shall I do today?

Really sorry. Unfortunately chooks do this sometimes. The only way to know the cause would be to have a pm done.  :(
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!

I wonder if she had an egg break inside her or egg peritonitis :(
Staffies are softer than you think.

They are pretty good at masking illness, so sometimes you don't get much warning  :(

If there were no obvious lumps or bumps, no discharges, gasping or problems eating, it could have been her heart but there is no way of knowing for sure.

Its a shame when its a nice young hen that goes suddenly like that  :(
