Just had another enquiry
« on: December 18, 2007, 11:50 »
Just had a phone call from a lady who wants some POL chickens.  She was reading my chookblog, and wanted to know how much the postage would be for 6 Amberlinks!!!

The only problem is, I'm in Lincolnshire and she's in West Wales!!!!!  I've never posted a chicken in my life!!!!!

But I contacted the hatchery who gave me the number of a pullet rearer in Oswestry.  I called them and they may be able to get 6 over to her!!!!!  They are calling her this afternoon.  Aren't I a good girl?

I thought Bedfordshire was far enough away, but Wales!!!!!! lol  More local customers needed I think!!!!

They certainly used to send live birds by rail or road at one time in baskets but through the post ??? Maybe a specialist courier would do the job?

I've had dove's delivered by courier before now, long time ago tho. Came in little cardboard boxes like mini cat boxes via Royal mail .

When I was young my father had a few chickens in th garden.  We lived in London so no hatcheries there.  I don't know were he bought them from but he would go to the local railway station and pick them up off a train.

PS They came in a crate, not as passengers

Nice to know people are finding out you've go chooks to sell Grannie  :D

Birds by Post!
I too have had birds sent, but by courrier not Royal Mail! We've had both doves and a peahen and both apparently set off from the supplier one day and arrived very early the following morning. They were in nice little wooden crates and arrived very calm and in great condition. When we moved to France we brought our hens and doves and they travelled with us from Leeds to Brittany which included an overnight ferry. They were all fine on arrival despite our worries about keeping them shut up for so long.

LOL, she probably meant couriered, but it as just the way she said how much would the postage be? lol

There are still some companies that transport live chooks and things, but with all the hoo ha over the past few years about animal tranportation, a lot of companies stopped doing it.  I'm not sure if anyone would just come and collect 6 chickens though and take them to West Wales, it'd cost a fortune!  And my blog does sy I'm in Lincolnshire.  Mind you, Brian said if she'd wanted 200, we'd deliver!!!!

The hatchery where we got ours day olds from can delivery if you order over 200, but I didn't dare ask how uch delivery was, and as they are only down at Peterborough, we collected them.

And yes aunty, its nice isn't it that people have started to see I have nearly POL's for sale, its just a shame they are so far away!!  Munty was coming for 8, but since the Scotland thing, I haven't heard from him.

xx
My most distant enquiry yet!!!!!
