Title: Bark chippings - silly question?
Post by: pink-chicken on October 06, 2009, 16:56
We are all stocked up with 3 large bags of bark chippings and almost ready to put it down for our girlies. Sorry for what seems a silly question but will they eat any of the chippings and if so can it harm them? Our girlies seem to pounce on anything that looks edible. If they do eat small bits will it pass through naturally and not block them up

Hi,
I can only go by what ours do which is that they scratch and dig in it but don't eat it.
the worms and other bugs will also come to the surface which will them be eaten by the chooks.
Mine love to dig down about 9" and have a bark/soil bath. so funny with just their heads stocking out above the ground.

I have about a 3" layer on the ground.

Hi Osborne27 and thank you  :) Sounds like the girls can be trusted not to eat it but do what chickens do best, dig, lol. I can just imagine how funny your girls would look with just their heads showing and hope ours get to have as much fun.
