Wilko's Seeds (own brand)
« on: February 10, 2017, 21:06 »
Has anyone had any experiance with Wilko's own brand seeds?
Ive never used them myself but I couldnt believe the price! It seem's to good to be true?!
The packs are jam full as well, when I saw the price I first assumed they were 'trial packs' but thats not the case, the 25p pack of Cylindra has 150 seeds in it!
Has anyone planted these in the past?

Their seeds were as good as any others,  when they've had what I wanted  :)

Yes I've found them ok as long as you are not after particular named varieties.

I've used them quite often.  They have a basic range, so if you're looking for something a bit different, then you'll be out of luck.  They germinate as well as any other range, and often better than some, the price is good, and the seed is fresh.  I usually get my seed from Dobies, but if I've forgotten something, or not bought quite enough, I make up what I need with Wilco's seeds and have never been disappointed.

Most seeds come from a few large seed houses anyway, so there's often only packet (and price!) difference between brands. I've never had a problem with Wilko's seeds and would add that Aldi and Lidl are also worth visiting for good value seeds, although often not standard varieties - I picked up 5 packs from Lidl for £1 last week.

I cant remember the last time I paid the main brand full price - Wilkos are good, so are Aldi/Lidls, so are Kings from the allotment society.  I always get my onion and shallot sets from Wilkos, sorting through to get the nets where the bulbs aren't sprouting yet etc.  Always get a good crop.  (OK - I didn't last year, but that wasn't the fault of the sets  >:(

I once bought all my onion sets in poundland in Glasgow - red, white, shallots - during lunch break in a meeting and flew back home with them in my computer case as hand luggage.    ::)

I've also used them and as a previous reader said selection is limited, price is good and germination is good.
As for being Wilko's, there is also APP for application (ie software) until last year I thought apps for only for mobile phones and the like.
Tuesday will buy from Wilkinsons so Chard seed which I've run out of. (forgot to buy)

I work opposite a wilco so am always popping in. seeds are fine as most of you have commented if basic.
potato selection good basic varietys. they have also got loose ones this year fill a bag for 1.50. bag is small but if you only need a few and different varietys its fine.
good range of flower bulbs etc.
best of all when they have spot reductions or end of season
