My friend took a plot over late last year and has been asking everyone what this is to no avail.
Im guessing you guys will know, any help identifying would be gratefully received.

It looks like Butterbur - don't know the latin name offhand, but its a native plant that would be considered a weed if its seeded onto the plot

When was the pic taken ? how big was it ? it does look like butterbur, but at the minute ours has no leaves they die back in the frost

In my youth. . . . .  a couple of kids ate some of this thinking it was rhubarb.  I think they survived after a spell in hospital.  But ever after when 'we lads' were out in the countryside "Just laikin' about"  and we came across this stuff, we would always say "That's what them kids ate". :happy:

And yea, its all disappeared now, that pic was taken last year. do you use it for anything rich or is it just for looking pretty?

after a google search i checked the wiki and apparently its and old medicinal plant used for all sorts of ailments.

Whether it is butterburr, coltsfoot or burdock is easily identified from the flowers.

Both coltsfoor and butterburr produce their flowers before the leaves, both any time soon. Coltsfoot is a yellow diasy type flowers, butterburr produces its pinky-red flowers in a fist sized bunch on a stem, burdock flowers mid- summer and produces a tall stem (the fruits are burrs that stick to your jumper - good for throwing at each other if you are kids.
