Hi, I have started to get fungus in my lawn and gravel bed, and it is spreading !! It looks exactly like acorns on little white stalks. They are very dense in growth. I have just swept them up, but the clumpy root is still in the grass. What are they, What has caused them (I did have a nationwide company do a feed and weed a week or so before they started to pop up) How do I get rid and prevent any more. Most importantly will they poison the doggie who is staying with me, and just out of interest what are they called (apart from a ****** nuisance)
All ideas and help will be much appreciated, sorry no 'photo, but I am not clever enough to do that stuff.

Your description sounds a bit like immature ink caps. Have a look at this:

If so, they are not poisonous, unless the dog has been consuming alcohol.which seems unlikely!

thank you for your reply, yes it could be those, although my babies are brown not white, but I haven't let them grow. There was a malice tree under the lawn a few years back, which was removed with the stump, but I am sure some of the roots were left behind ! In its place about 2 years ago I planted a photinia tree, which is about 12ft high but hasn't got a very big crown yet. So I am suspecting you are right, and if I leave them they will get bigger and lighter in colour. Thank heaven they are not poison.
Do you think I should just let them grow, our get rid on a daily basis, my lovely little green lawn looks fairly horrid now.

I'd just pick them off every day if they look hideous. I quite like the look of them until they go all black.... very autumnal
