started outdoor melon seeds in prop in airing cupboard.took out soon as
came through.now about 5ins still got seed pod on top of the only 2leaves.
what went wrong. now started more in pots on windowsill do you think
they will work....ta

I don't think anything is wrong - sometimes my beans & squashes have done this. Just keep them somewhere with plenty of light - think you'll find that they'll sort themselves out soon enough.

Its often usual to find a seed pod casing on seed leaves, especially on pumpkins, squash etc.  I dont know about melons but I cant see a problem at all

thanks guys, i,ll just keep them going then, if they get much taller i would
have to stake them as they will start to bend.

The seed pods stay on the seedling when its been a slow germination.
The seed doesnt pop the caseing off whilst its still wet, then it hardens again and cuts unto the seed leaves.
Try to tease it off if that doesn't work put the plant somewhere warm and it will pop it off in about 3 days or so  ;)

thanks stompy,teased seed pod off. i,ll compare the ones on w/sill.
do,nt think i,ll do melons again.had some given to me last year, they
wilted and died...
