Hi
Has anyone successfully grown Melons. I planted the seeds several weeks ago but they have not germinated. :(
Help required please.

I think you are a lot early Heifer. I'll only be planting courgette in 2nd week of May. Even they need warmth to germinate.

sow end may plant out at 2 main leaves on extremly well manured ground and keep watered . take all but 3 fruit off with a sharp knife .. if you can grow them in the greenhouse do so .no cucs around em tho . have a wide meshed net avaliable for them to climb as they fare better doing so than laying down in the uk i grew them 5 yrs back for a bit of fun and did ok my fruits came out at 6 inches for the biggest .. tasetd yuck tho until i let them ripen properly .if you find they are not maturing and gettting mould on the leaves cut the fruit and take inside the house to ripen

Muntjac why no cuc's around em mate ?, I was planning on growing them for the 1st time this year, and I usually grow cuc's and toms in the greenhouse.
Cheers

You might be okay at sea level Ziggy. I've some spare seed if you want to replant later (All Green Bush).

Thanks WG.....hopefully they won't grow too quickly or the weather will warm up sooner.

Cross pollination
Don't think it can be cross-pollination. See here (http://www.co.allen.in.us/images/stories/Purdue%20CES/Horticulture/ACH31.pdf)

Good link Martin. I'm sure I read it somewhere (can't you always  ) but it is hard to argue with the learned paper you present. I have edited my original post to append a "?" :D :D
