how much do you sell your eggs for???
« on: November 07, 2007, 10:54 »
I am curious what do other people sell their eggs for?

I have realised that we are not getting through all our eggs so I offered em to friends as freebies and they are insisteing they want to buy in future, I said 70p for half a dozen would be fine but they were scandalised and insisted on at least a quid.

so I had a look and they are quite a price in the shops about £1.55 for large free range so I wonder what do the rest of you charge?

I have also been very suprised at how keen people are to have them I know they taste much better but its suprising how many people hate the idea of the kind of eggs they buy at the moment, I didnt prompt em or even mention battery hens they just sort of rambled on about how horrible it all was
ok so I know its a daft question but Im cute ......

We are getting about 25 eggs a week from our 4 Black Rocks, which means that we have about a dozen spare each week.

We gave them away to start with, but as people offered to buy them, I charge £1 per half-dozen. I figure that this is fair, as supermarket 'Free Range' eggs are at least £1.50 (and still don't have the colour or taste of 'fresh' eggs, IMHO).
This pretty much covers the cost of their feed and straw, which is nice!  :D

Nice to know that people are getting a conscience about how chickens are kept too......

We do eggs as part of our veg box scheme, at EUR 1.20/6.  However, for friends, the barter system comes into play.  Sometimes it can be 'bring some eggs round and I can show you how to make xxx with them', or "here's half a quintali of cabbages that have gone over for your chickens.  Got any spare eggs?"
