Over Wintering Carrots

How do you store your's over winter, if at all? I've left mine in the ground & risked it. Apart from one or two split & nibbled ones I seem to have got away with it.

This is ONE of my Autumn King carrots I've just chopped up for a casserole. Scale: the board is 13" long.

use old compost in a deep tray  a  layer tween each set carrots and they will store loverly i leave an inch of leaf on em im still eating last year flak and they are great.cool dark place n ur sorted 

What sort of condition is the compost? As in dry? Compost can go almost powdery when very dry.
