Potato varieties
« on: January 31, 2013, 22:05 »
I am looking to find some different potatoes this year. Has anyone tried Bonnie?
Also I have seen seed potatoes in the pound shop. Has anyone bought any before and do they grow ok?  The ones I saw looked as if they had already sprouted

I've not tried Bonnie but often grow poundshop potatoes, which grow just fine  :)

Try to find the ones with the smallest possible sprouts  ;)

No, but this is what JBA has to say about them (although they are currently out of stock!)

The fact that they are a popular choice for show-growers could mean they may not be the heaviest croppers, but that might be an unfair deduction to make.

Potatoes which are already chitting are OK as long as the chits are not white and the tubers not already shrivelled.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

Gone purely for disease resistance this year, risk of blight must be very high
