Help with blind chicken in this weather
« on: February 12, 2012, 11:11 »
Some of you may remember i wrote a while ago that I have a chicken that has gone blind.

The last couple of days she has started to drop her feathers and also doesn't weigh very much.

Is it possible she is having a full moult in this freezing weather?
She was fine when it was nice as she could get around and as long as you never moved any thing she would eat and drink when out of the pen.
he is finding it hard now as she can't get to things and most of the time just stands about all fluffed up and with tail down.
I have decided today to leave her in the coop so she will be able to eat and drink as i am sure that her eating snow isn't good and it will also make her eat her food.

Has anybody any suggestions.  I am also going to look at the knitted pattern somebody put up and maybe make her one to keep her warm.
Really dont want to send her to chicken heaven as it will leave me with only one chicken.
Adopt a chicken

it is perfectly normal for her to moult at this time of year so don't bother with the jumper. Keeping her in a coop with food and water where she knows it is sounds like a good plan to me.
Staffies are softer than you think.

Thanks joyfull.

I have some chicken spice to go in the food as well so will make sure oh mixes it in when he feeds them.  It might be why she seems down in dumps as well as this is the first real moult she has done.
Will let the other one out for a stroll and keep her in. Hope the weather improves soon for her
