My Bantams haven't molted
« on: July 03, 2011, 19:07 »
My 5 bantams haven't molted since I've had them which is over 15 months. Is this normal?

Hello Oborne27
I am not an expert on moulting.  My feeling is that they will moult when they are ready.  If they are eating, drinking, Poohing and moving about OK I would be inclined to leave them to it.  Are they doing all the usual chickeny things and how are they laying?  What are you feeding them?  What breed of bantam are they?  Good luck and keep us posted.
11 bantams (and counting!) 2 dogs 1 cat

they are completely normal, and laying loads of eggs!
Just concerned that everyone that I talk to say their chooks moult - guess I'm just feeling left out!!!!!! mind you the chooks don't mind.

Agree with Joyfull. You may not have noticed the slight moult they had last autumn :)

Hi All,
They are RIR bantams, and yes do all the usual chickeny things that chickens do. getting 4 or 5 eggs a day and eating me out of house and home.
I get the odd feather but nothing to much and no bare patches.
so I guess its normal nad will keep you posted if theres a problem.
thanks
