Roost to dawn in the big girls house
« on: April 11, 2012, 18:17 »
This will be like watching paint dry to non chicken people. :tongue2: ;)

It's last night roost to dawn in the house we call the big girls house. I'm really surprised how tolerant they are to each other, i thought there would be more scrapping and pecking going on but it seems very quite and friendly. :) It shows that the old cockerel and the very old Cornish Game hen like to go to bed early, about 6.30. :) The younger hens come in to roost later. They free range the cattle yards all day

It is filmed with an infra- red wildlife camera so  the house would have been in complete darkness for most of the time and I've added a bit of Bette Midler.  I particularly like the line ' I took all the glory whilst you took all the strain'  :D

Its less that 2minutes

It looks as though they need to get there early to book a good spot for the night.  Nice video Spana. :D

I had no idea that they were that active in there in all that darkness.  Thanks for sharing.  And here I thought that our hens just roosted and never moved.  Wow!
When I die I will slide in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, screaming, "Whooo hooo!  What a ride!" as life is to be enjoyed to the fullest!

 :D

The camera is activated by movement so I  didn't get much film of them just being still ::) Also as the night went on, for some reason it only filmed 3second clips instead of 10 seconds and thats why the end is a bit rushed. ::)
I've got another better camera that records in HD and sound so i'll do another and see how they compare.

Its funny how interesting it is for us chicken people to see them at night, not something we would normally do, but as i said, like watching paint dry for most people :D
