Just doused two large slugs with coffee grounds.  For my experiment, you see.

I will give a post mortem report tomorrow.

For me, it is more a question of whether they are repelled by coffee grounds. i.e. can you spread them on the soil around vulnerable plants?

The result so far is - I'm really not sure!

They have certainly done no harm and there does not seem to have been many slugs around the courgettes. There is also a strange tobacco sort of smell around the plants which I can only guess is the grounds rotting away!

However, this is the first year I've really giving growing my own stuff a good go so I have no 'base' year or normal courgettes to compare to.

What I do know is my courgettes have been a bit pathetic so far - plenty of flowers but hardly any fruit. I've been advised on this forum to try pollenating some myself but not given it a go yet.

Slugs don't eat mature courgette stems / leaves anyhow.  Maybe an odd nibble at the fruit but you say you don't have any!
