what to grow after potatoes
« on: May 16, 2010, 10:46 »
Morning everyone. Thanks for all your welcome posts.
My question is what can I plant once I harvest my 1st and 2nd earlies?
Do I have to leave the plot fallow till next spring?
Your help would be very welcome.

Brassicas or peas

Apparently strawberries and raspberries shouldn't go in after spuds

If you don't fill the space you can cover it with muck over the winter ready for the off next spring

LEEKS
I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

In my rotation, legumes follow potatoes, in the hope that that they will add some nitrogen after the heavy feeding of the potatoes. I only manure one bed per year and that is in the autumn before the potatoes go in. The legumes are followed by onions.

I'm planning Leeks and winter squash. Perhaps some green manure on areas not to be used before next spring.

When my 1st earlies come out, I am growing Swift and it should be ready 2nd week in June, I was going to plant my sweetcorn.  I was going for 16 in a block.  That is off course if any of the seeds germinate no sign after a week of planting in a sunny porch.
Time waits for no man and I can't wait for growth.

thought about the same. sweetcorns after earlies. but with the cold weather hanging forever i dont think we can have sweetcorns after earlies. so for me it would either be easy grow salad crops and throw in the mustard, cress seeds i have for green manure!!!
One kid is handful. Two kids.... Example for chaos theory. Hats off to my mum who managed three...
