Is it too late to sow runner bean seeds
« on: June 29, 2022, 07:10 »
Is it too late to sow some runner or French bean seeds now.

I did sow some in late may in pots but they aren't too good, so I thought I could pop a few more seeds in now, at the bottom of each pole

thanks !

i think you may run short of light but late sown seeds do seem to get away so quickly   are you putting in the same pots that have been not good??   good luck.

You will be OK to sow runner beans now but it is getting towards the end of the sowing season for them. How successful they will be depends on the weather. Nothing much to lose by not sowing them.

Thanks .. yes I'll give them a go.

Nothing to lose really.. although looking on t'internet I think it's a bit late for French beans, but runners should be OK. I'll give them a soak this morning, then pop them in later today

I've just sown some more Frenchies in my garden, hoping for a late crop - the ones on the allotment are not doing well, because it's been so windy, up there, out in the open.

Every year I do a late sowing of french beans in the polytunnel which give me a good crop. I usually sow these in late August for picking end Sept onwards. I think a late sowing outdoors now should be absolutely fine. Definately worth a go anyway  :)

Dwarf French beans will give you a crop more quickly
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
