I have been badgered by the wife to grow some spaghetti squash next year, she tried so at a friends house, is it worth growing other than just to keep the peace :)

Personally I think it is virtually tasteless, I only grew it the once - just to try  ::)

It seemed to be easy to grow and set fruit easily, so tuck one in somewhere out of the way - just for a quiet life  ;)

I grow them most years.  They produce a lot of fruits, so 1 plant should be plenty to start with.

Buy a traditional seed variety.  I use Franchii seeds and they are sprawling plants that give you fruit of all sizes, but they have good colour and flavour.  They get decent soil, a watering in and are pretty much left to it after that.

To cook, halve and place face down in a baking dish.  Add a splash of water to prevent burning and bake in a moderate oven until just soft enough to pierce through easily with a tip of a knife.  Don't overcook - a medium sized fruit only needs 30 mins or so.  A slightly crispy texture to the strands is very nice.

Cool until you can handle them, then scrape out the strands of flesh with a fork.  At this point, it will store in a bowl in the fridge for several days.  I reheat in a frying pan with butter and black pepper, but you can also use the oven, treat it as vegetable pasta or bake with a sauce  :)
