Title: More Container Advice Please
Post by: mrs bouquet on November 01, 2020, 11:44
After the debacle with one large container, I need advice about a second one.   It is by "Feather"  45cmH x 55 Wide.  I have now decided not to plant it up with a shrub, because it will be too heavy.   So what can I do with it - could I fill it almost to the top with styrene or similar then layer over that with cardboard then somehow plant above that in say 6 inches of soil.    Perhaps some sort of container maybe 6".     I am not doing anything anymore without asking your ideas first.      (Bought in haste - repent at leisure !! )    Mrs Bouquet

You can use broken up polystyrene to fill the base and then easily put bedding plants into the shallow depth of soil you are thinking about - primroses and violas/pansies for the winter and then switch over to a summer mix.

I think it is a very good idea not to fill it with soil and a shrub after your last calamity.  We do prefer you to be in one piece :)

I'm sorry to hear about your struggles but depending on the surface on which it stands,  could you fit castors? ???

Cheersa,  Tony.

I do have a set of those castors for moving plant pots, but my garden is all up and down steps, so their use is very limited.   Thanks for the idea.     Mrs B
