Given potted strawberry runners - what next?
« on: July 25, 2015, 17:38 »
A kindly plotholder came over with a dozen potted-up strawberry runners for me. Two or three leaves on each and a central 'bud' of new leaves, and thriving.

Plant them out? Leave them potted in their 3" pots until next year?

My next move, please....

I'd let them grow on for a few weeks and plant in early autumn. That's what I do, usually results in nice big healthy plants with a fine crop the following year.
I don't really look like my avatar.

Just check the root system in the pots and repot them if the roots are starting to fill the pots. Plant them out later in the season when the ground is still warm.

Spend the time preparing the ground to give them a good start when you plant them.
