I have just taken delivery of 3 small peony roots.
The instructions about what to do with them are very vague.
I would guess that they would be better put into pots as they are quite small.
Do you think they would be better left in the greenhouse (it is unheated till April ish) until the weather is a bit more hospitable, or should they go directly to a cold frame.
In other words, how hardy is a small root?

They are hardy plants but if you are at all concerned then you could keep them in the unheated greenhouse.  Just make sure you don't forget to water them.

and dont bury them deeper than the 'tide mark' on the roots

There are no roots as such sunshineband, just a stick and knobbly bits
