Cyclamen
« on: June 28, 2011, 23:23 »
Mum bought me a cyclamen at Christmas (sorry, need to say that word!) and for the first time I have managed to keep it alive till now.
It is yellowing and dying back now which I gather is normal, but what do I do with it now so that it flowers again next winter.

Thanks

Elaine

Stop watering.

Put them somewhere cool & dry, but not to the point of being arrid. (Mine go in the garage).

Around September time, you'll see new growth, bring them back inside & start watering again. The first time it will probably take a total immersion in water & wait until the compost is re-hydrated.

Feed until it flowers.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Yep., thats what I do as well.  Here's a good tip.  If they wilt when flowering, put the pot on a support over the top a washing up bowl containing an 1" or 2" of boiling water, and watch them steam back to health.  Good luck, Mrs Bouquet

Keeping the pot on a watered dish of gravel helps as well with the hunidity.

I have a question on the same topic, didn't see the point of starting a new thread.
I had a very nice bed of cyclamen in our back garden last year. All new plants, and they looked great for ages over winter. I haven't seen any sign of them since the very cold weather we had early in the year. Will they come back later this year? I haven't disturbed the soil or anything, hoping they will, but they didn't look very happy before the tops died off.
thanks

They should start regrowing in early autumn if they are the kind that flowers before the leaves come up, or in spring if they are the kind that flowers at the same time as the leaves grow,.

You won't see either sort above ground right now  ;)

Hope that helps  :D
