I've sighted the first asparagus spear breaking ground and the first earlies are up too. YAY!
Thought i'd post something positive about weather/growing!

Well done on the Asparagus, must check my patch this week. Hopefully the warm weather will get it going strong. Rhubarb is really into it's stride now, currently have rhubarb cake, crumble and more rhubarb sat in a bag waiting to be frozen :D

Got 4 spears coming through, should be eating Asparagus by the weekend! :) :)

First spear popped it head above ground yesterday and was promptly snapped off and eaten on the spot :D, rhubarb is going mad and already giving it away. Just removed black plastic to find earlier poking their way through. They've got a shift on, as when I had a furtle last week they looked unchanged from when I planted them.

10 spears now, nice thickness too. I planted 2 year old crowns early spring last year and all the ferns were pencil thick at best, some look 3 times the thickness this year. Intending to harvest for about a month this year, hopefully get away with it as the crowns a a year older.
All the spuds are up now, peas, beets and carrots appearing too. Not doing so well with the tender stuff indoors, had a few toms and cukes die. Can't win em all...

Me too. :tongue2:
Last year I first saw them on the 28th March...

Checked a week ago and could just see two spears poking through. Checked yesterday and there were 14 - not quite tall enough yet though. We had a few ferny ones last year after we planted a bed of 20 crowns. Can't wait - I LOVE asparagus!!!!

I've had a few growing, probably about 15 in the last couple of weeks. There is a couple that can be picked... might do it tonight :-)

I am inundated with asparagus :D. Time to pull the recipes out! Pasta con Aspargi last night. But it is about 3 weeks later than last year.
My late rhubarb is still too small, so I am jealous of those partaking of their lovely stalks. ;)
