I have a very small back yard, with what was, an even smaller patch of grass for my terrier cross bitch to use.
However after about a year of wee the grass is dead ,and the soil is smelling .
Does anyone know of anything that I can use[besides a gun] that i can use to make the grass grow again?

dig it ver rake level add seed in spring .. or buy new turf lay after digging and raking level .. nothing helps other than getting rid of dog before it pees on grass. oh train dog to pee on concrete by locking it up on it?
-
thanks for that, but my garden isn't big enough for a lock as well as my dog. someone said i should use epsom salts but i am a bit dubious about that
-
heard that settles the stomach after having eaten dog / not sure about the wee though  .there are a lot of things you can do with it tho ,, search . what are epsom salts
-
You could replace the grass with gravel over a membrane nothing to die then! or you could use astro turf again that won't die but could be washed down easily and will always be green.
I'm sure I saw a lawn reviver preparation in a pet shop the other day you could try your local pet shop.

I think it's the acid in wee that causes the problem so a pH test could be in order followed by lime as required.
Don't know why bitches (and queen cats) cause more damage but they do seem to.
-
I think its the higher hormone levels in female wee that does it.
-
Thanks for all the input, I'll try the pH test. Fingers crossed that works

I heard that a teaspoon of Tomato Ketchup in your dogs meal everyday, stops this.
I had exactly the same problem (Female dog), started giving her tomato ketchup, and the problem stopped.
Give it a try, everyone has Ketchup in the cupboard :)
-
Tom ketchup is also the stuff to rub onto your dog after shes rolled in badger or fox poo, then rince off obviously!
-
the other thing is to have a bucket of water with you each time she goes out. When she wees, pour the water in exactly the same place. It dilutes the wee sufficiently to ensure no damage is done.

what are epsom salts
I'd like to know that too (for a completely non gardening reason). I have been told to soak my dogs foot in them to help his corns.
-
my bitch had them from shooting in brambles n thorns . i used normal salty water soon softened em up with oil of ulay as well rubbed in.. the oil of ulay wasnt mine by the way lolol
-
We are going to try something simple like that now because 2 years of various vet treatments and procedures have gotten us nowhere (except skint obviously)
-
with the number of dogs i have had in my lifetime so far i get to thinking like a dog ,my mom used to woof n id sit for my dinner lol
-
Epsom salts - get them from the chemist - cheap as well

Epsom salts aren't they supposed to be good for detoxing? You are supposed to put them in your bath and it draws out all the shite or something. Supposed to be good for detoxing your liver (mine is beyond help!) p.s digging is best hangover cure!!! felt like dodo after drinking too much cider sat but soon cleared after I had sorted some beds/had bonfire/ stood in cow *!!!

There's a special place in hell reserved for people with artificial lawns you know.
