Potting on tomato seedlings
« on: March 10, 2012, 14:58 »
My tomatoes have been germinating in the house and are quite tall. I have potted them on in the greenhouse but I no longer have the space in the house to keep them in pots. Can I keep them in the cold greenhouse under a plastic cloche or something for extra insulation ?

I don't find tomatoes quite as "sulky" as cucurbits or sweet corn but they still need a minimum temperature of around 10C to not get set back (or even killed if it gets towards freezing.)

If you think you can provide that you should be OK.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

I suspect you may find it gets rather chilly in there overnight - if they are really leggy then a cloche may not be big enough.  They will certainly need some protection if the greenhouse is unheated.

As JayG says, you need a minimum overnight temperature of 10C or they will sulk.

It's really a bit too early to have started them off ...
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Your right. I have bottled out and kept them in. They have had a day out in the greenhouse  ;)

If you've not too many to move, that probably is the best way.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
