I used to work at a pig AI centre! we mostly sent semen to large commercial farms 100;s of doses at a time as ideally you would serve a sow 2 or 3 times! we used to supply 1 or 2 does sometimes to smallholders etc! you can choose the breed of boar the semen comes from (we only had large commercial breeds) most farms have a teaser boar to stimulate the sows to ovulate! but think you can buy pheramone sprays to give the same result!. We supplied ours in sealed packets that you used a catheter with or an automate which is easier

Hi,

We have not any room for a boar, that is why we particualy wanted to AI. I have read somewhere that the straws can be posted 3 at a time, but cant seem to find that link again.
AI is better option for us as we will have more control.

Holt after the last time you asked for advice and people took time to reply but you never gave an update or any acknowledgement or thanks.  Why should I reply to you?

we sent out 'catheters' in any quantity required! you would need to find a good AI centre to source your semen from! the raw semen is mixed with a special diluant which extends the life of the semen for a few days if kept at a low temp also it would of been checked for motility and deformities and counts under a microscope to make sure it is top quality and your not wasting a cycle in the sow!

here is the company i worked for! only the commercial lines though im afraid!
http://www.rattlerow.com/
AI doses are sent out in the post special delivery with catheters.
would assume a traditional/rare breeds stud may have the same facilities
