We call ours little dinosaurs!!They have taught poor blackbirds to keep out of the way by chasing and pecking! Basically as Evie2 says ,if it moves then its fair game to them!

Mine chase any bird that has the cheek to land on the lawn... and yet they let the sparrows go in through the pop-hole into the coop and eat their food!  :tongue2:

So far I haven't seen them make physical contact with any of the birds - chasing them seems to be more of a game than any serious attempt to catch them.

Mine had a slow worm one day!  There was a commotion, I looked to see what was going on and one had had the slow worm in her mouth and the others were chasing her!!  :D I rescued the slow worm, showed it to the neighbour and Mercedes killed it, said it was very dangerous, could strangle a hen!! How daft is that??????

What on earth is a slow worm?! Please help a foreigner to understand before my mind boggles completely out of its skull...

Edit: Found an explanation on my beloved Wikipedia.  The article also says:
Quote
In the United Kingdom the slow worm has been granted protected status, alongside all other native British reptile species. The slow worm has been decreasing in numbers, and under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 it is illegal to intentionally kill, injure, sell or advertise to sell them.

Uh-oh.  You'd better let your chickens read that.  ???

When I first got my new girls they used to run and hide under a bush when there were Seagulls about, which is quite often, but seem to be getting used to them now.  :)

I had never heard of Slow Worms until now.  You get to a certain stage in your life when you think you've heard of everything - you might not know much about it, but at least you know it exists.  Like gallbladders.  And then something like a Slow Worm comes along and surprises you.

Mine still don't like seagulls, although we have a lot around here.  They still either freeze and look up, or if the gull is flying low enough the chickens will run and hide. They do the same with helicopters!
