With this dry weather the trips back and forth to the water trough to fill watering cans is getting a bit much!
I want to set up a water butt on my plot with perhaps soaker/seeping hoses running round my important veg.
has anyone ever tried this please and what is best size butt to go for for this?
-
I'm going to give this a go but I'm a bit delayed owing to my butts being empty and the 99p shop failing to have soaker hoses this year, but I'll still try.
-
Do you need any kind of water pressure to make the hose work properly ?
-
Phew. Thought for a moment that this thread was one of those naughty double-entendre threads what us elderly genteel laydee types like to start.
-
Well I was gonna mention a preference for big butts,
-
Thought of something extremely rude to say about soaker hoses, but probably best left unsaid. Anyhoo, better not hijack this thread like the one last night.
-
Aaw go on, think everyone else has gone to bed  Time to put the kettle on !
-
on Butts, dont mind the size so long as they tight :)
-
Just checked and Aunt Sally is on here and she scares me
-
Chicken ! Aunty's a pussycat ! looks after the ladyee's she does, an give's boyees cushions for the naughty step
-
Well yes, I agree. Actually, a cushion can come in handy when experiencing roid rage, as one does at my age. No, not steroid, haemorrhoid.

We've done it again and hijacked another thread. Apologies slow_worm. Time to make some horlicks and turn in for the night. ( For horlicks read gin), but don't tell my doctor. Now where's that ointment?

there's me thinking I'd have loads of sesible response! No such luck... would anyone care to offer advice on their 'butt & hose' arrangement?

Thanks Shaun... actually I have an old cold water tank in my garden which has an outlet at the bottom.
Maybe I can raise it on blocks... and find a way of connecting a hose to it.
-
I've got some of those expensive proper soaker hoses, I think they were 15 quid each, in the garden but they don't run well off a water butt. However Wilkinsons sell some for 99p which are absolutley rubbish on a tap (they tend to burst) and I think these would be perfect for running off a butt, you just need a short length of ordinary hose to connect. Anyway I plan to try it if ever I get any more water in my butts.
PLEASE RAIN

do the soaker hoses need quite a bit of pressure to work then?
...mabe better off putting tiny holes in a regular hose?
