May be a bit late to start sowing now, but if you can get hold of plants, (can be expensive in some garden centres), you're looking at the likes of leeks, January King cabbage, brussels etc.

It's an ideal time to sow swede direct into the soil. Not everyone has the soil, (me inculded), to grow them though, but if you don't try, you won't know.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

One of my favourites for having something to get me through the winter is kale. Might be a bit late but it is dead easy to grow and will keep through the winter. I start mine in seed trays (outside) and it is then planted out when other stuff is harvested.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

There's still time, if you're quick  to get some Tundra or January King cabbage (others as well I suppose ..but these I've grown) and carrots and swede sown :)
Kale as mentioned and don't forget chard...it gets knocked back by severe weather but rapidly grows away in any breaks in the weather :)
