I always buy my seed potatoes from the same shop every year at £3 for the normal size bag 3kg is it ?
But in the seed mags they are a lot more expensive for a smaller bag.
So are they any better seed potatoes or are they just making a fast buck ?

Usually buy mine from Wilkos. £3 for 3kg bag. Have also bought some from garden centres. Have not noticed any difference in the final product. Seed catalogues and garden centres may have more varieties available but that's all.

I was chatting to an old fellow in the village today,, he has some of the best spuds i,ve seen, several different varieties,  it turns out some of the varieties he grows you cannot get any longer,, he told me he keeps all his own seeds,, the really little spuds he keeps for seed and he has done this for the last 15-20 years,, never had a problem with blight or disease,, he planted his seed spuds later then I did mine but both were ready at the same time and although I,ve had a good harvest with little damage his are better with no damage at all,,,

think i know what i,m going to try next year!!

Ive always wondered why anyone would pay double the price or more for something they can get fairly easily a lot cheaper 
The onion sets are extortionate as well.

I'd advise people here just to take a minute to think as to why we go to all the trouble of having certified (disease free) seed potatoes.

I'm after pricing up all next years seeds, tubers and sets and haven't sorted out the potato side of things yet ....

I always buy seed potatoes and onion sets at local shops/garden centres as they are usually reasonable and no postage.
Try the smaller garden centres as theres one near me which sells many potato varieties loose at a £1 a kilo.

I bought seed pots this year and chitted some "Roosters" from the supermarket............All did well ....Best tasting ??....Roosters from the supermarket......Makes you think does'nt it??

Me too, don't want to encourage any blight spores!

I buy my seed potatoes from the garden centre and from Wilko's.  this year my Wilko Pentland javelin turned out really nice and I've still got loads in the bag under the sink, plus I've still got 3 tubs of Vivaldi waiting to be tipped out!!!

DD recommended a lcoal nursery in Leicestershire for seed spuds and I went over ....so pleased I did...have had a wonderful crop of new potatoes (especially anyas.)Tried lots of different varities...well you can at a pound a kilo and no postage!
