Best time of year for sorting out a plot?
« on: June 23, 2007, 17:04 »
Some of you know I am in the very very early stages of getting together my veg patch - due to sloping, water and clay I need to make raised beds, plus when payday comes I am going to be ordering some topsoil - now is there a good and bad time to get your plot ready or is it just whenever?

I'd say now's a good time because you can be planning what to do next year (4-bed rotation etc) but still get some stuff in to be going on with as you get it cleared.

Also gives you plenty of time to do some reading - some good books recommended elsewhere.

Just had a thought. Why don't bl**dy slugs eat the bl**dy weeds?????
Growing salad leaves isn't rocket science.

Just been up the garden between showers to tidy up. I think it helps if you keep things tidy - less nooks and crannies for the little bu**ers to hide during the day. So I've tidied away old compost bags, flowerpots etc.

Starting to tidy in advance of clearing the ground for the greenhouse coming in a few weeks. That will definitely be a slug-free zone.

True, but beneficial critters that eat the pests and polltinate your plants also need nooks and crannies to hide in

A really good time is when you have two or more weeks off work  :!:
