Title: Defra Registration
Post by: Prod on October 29, 2013, 15:54
I am sure I read that if you keep 50 or more birds you have to register  but is this just for chickens?  eg.  If you kept chicknes anf quail and together they totalled 50  would you have to register.  Also  what if your numbers go up temporarily i.e.  when you are hatching/incubating??? ??? ???  If you sell eggs/chicks/POL  are you classed as a business?/

I am not sure about how many chickens you need to have before you register with defrabut the lady I buy mine from fills in a defra form even when we buy 2 or 3 hens.

You are required to register 50 birds whether they are single species or mixed.

See DEFRA guidance here:

even if only temporary you need to register, this doesn't matter if you are a business or a hobby keeper/breeder.
