Right I relise that the title sounds like my chook is broody.. However...

I have 6 chooks, 2 x Light Sussex, 2 x Cotswold Legbars and 2 x Burford Browns.

They are all around 18 weeks old.

On Monday we had our first egg! A very exciting time... Since then she goes into the nest box (Tuesday and Wednesday and makes her nest and also gets a little cluckie (normally she's quiet). The last two days nothing has been laid! All the fuss but no eggs!

Is she just confused? Or is there a problem... If a hen wasn't going to pay that day would they still bother sitting on the nest?

I don't think it would be her going broody just yet 

Is it your hen that has laid one egg that is doing this?  It is probably just her getting into the swing of things.

As long as she looks well I think she will be fine although maybe more experienced people might know better

Hi, yes she is my Hen.

I didn't think she was broody (even so somebody I know said theirs did not make nests so to watch her).

I was just wondering about the phantom egg and if it is normal to go in to lay but not actually lay one!

As you said she could just be getting used to it as she has only laid 1 egg to date.
