Title: Laying more then one egg a day?
Post by: kimmcb on June 06, 2011, 09:23
Has anyone had any experience of this - I've got 3 girls and one of them (from a process of elimination) seems to be laying more then one egg a day - usually every other day or so. She will lay a normal firm shelled egg and then for maybe the next two days, will lay two soft shelled eggs a day - they're usually waiting for my in the coop when I go and let them out in the morning. The oldest of my hens lays one a day without fail, and has done since she started laying two months ago and the other lays most days and hasn't had a soft shelled one since her first. Should I have her checked over by the vet, or is this something that may or may not sort itself out with time?

if she has only just come into lay then things should settle down before too long, however keep a close eye on her to make sure all of the soft shelled eggs come out - if they burst the other hens will try and peck it and then may start on pecking her rear end especially if they draw blood, also if one bursts inside her then this could lead to internal infections which will require a vet to prescribe anti biotics.
