Hanging Baskets
« on: March 05, 2011, 14:48 »
Is it too ealry for hanging baskets out yet?

I'm sure there must be something that I could plant in baskets that will survive the odd frost now and flower through the summer? Any suggestions?

This was last years effort but all planted in late april/may I think - wanted some colour now!

Beautiful display there :) I would be very proud :D !

I would say your better off waiting a while until its time to plant summer bedding May/June - keep busy with some veggies :)

Its coming towards the end of spring bedding now however they would be a 'quick fix' so to speak but it would be time to get rid of them by May to make room for the Summer bedding so imho wait :D

Thanks DD and Garddwr.

Got some primroses and pansies on the weekend and planted them in some baskets - will add some lobelia, surfinias and million bells later in the year.

We plan on even more colour this year - the fence has been replaced and plan on getting more planters on the posts and some on the shed either side of the door. Went to our local garden centre and picked up two wicker troughs with a load of half dead plants in reduced from £20 to £2! some of the plants look like they will survive - the ones that don't will be replaced.

They'll be plenty of veg to keep me busy Garddwr, need to do the baskets to keep in the wifes good books so she doesn't complain about all the space the veggies are taking up in the garden!
