Cuttings of various plants.
« on: June 26, 2009, 08:41 »
So, with my Garden overspilling with every flower imaginable, I am thinking of taking some cuttings of various plants, and I have been reading up on how to do this and what 'equipment' I need.

I have everything I need now, but one bit of every web site i read confuses me:
  • Put in a bright but not sunny position

What does this mean? A shady place? How can it be bright but not sunny?

No direct sunlight Riala - so for example, near a window but not on the windowsill itself

So... hmm... confusing hehehe.  In a well lit room then? I have a high shelf in the kitchen that is on the opposite side to the window but doesn't get direct sunlight, will that work?

Further into a room is often actually very dark, even in a bright room.  Outside but lightly shaded is good (or in a greenhouse with white-wash).  If you want to use a sunny windowsill, just put a sheet of paper to shade the cuttings from direct sunlight.

Excellent idea, thank you  Stripey_cat.

My windowsills are nice and wide, seems a shame to waste that much space.
