How trainable is the kid?  I don't think I *ever* tried to eat anything in the garden, because I'd been told I mustn't.  My brother, on the other hand... he seemed to view "no" as "go on!".  I'm not sure if this was a fundamental difference in personality or because he was the spoiled baby.

Its a new garden, if the Laurel's in the wrong place/you don't like it/something else needs to go there, sure take it out but just because it might look tasty to her?  Nah, wait and see if its a problem and how well "No!" works.  I think Laural is poisonous but so are loads of other garden plants - if eaten in enough quantity.  She will need to learn the word "No".  Its not like you're going to leave her alone in the garden at her age!

not only are laurel berries poisonous to eat, the sap is toxic if breathed in as minute droplets eg if trimmed with a hedgecutter.(you should wear a mask when cutting it back)I think it can also be absorbed through the skin so you should cover yourself well when dealing with it.
If you dont want to get rid of it entirely, maybe you could remove any branches that might be in reach of your toddler until she is old enough to understand not to touch and especially eat it?

Personally i hate the stuff! :D :D

Well I should think you will be close behind her in the garden right up to the age of  and half, can be full of obsticles.  A playpen would be useful if your'e out there for a while doing something.
