pansys v violas
« on: September 20, 2014, 09:53 »
Hi my friends I have been getting plugs from j Parker of Manchester every autumn for years now last year I got wallflower for spring colour but they were awful plugs and very disappointing flowers ,so will be sticking with pansy and violas now the pansy plants last year were very weak ,didnt bloom till late and disappointing the violas seemed to do better ,I'm wondering should I get all viola this year and not bother with pansys are violas stronger than pansys and do they do better in our winter weather or does anyone know of good winter spring plants for containers or a different supplier who sells strong good plugs many thanks ricky

I have grown both in the past and think they are equally hardy.

Not sure abut suppliers online as I buy them locally.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Hi Ricky, I haven't brought from these before but I have seen the plants that they sell, they've always looked very good, also if your not happy they will send more free of charge. Good luck. I buy mine local we have lots of very good nurseries around us. :)

We recently had a nursery woman talking at out garden club & she sang the praises of violas, saying how they flowered even in the very cold winter. I only buy from local nurseries so no help in that dept :(
A woman's place is in her garden.

Thank you for all your replys I have a lot of local nurseries here but I need around 700 plugs to fill my containers it would work out very expensive to use local nurseries thank you all once again I really value your replys and friendship. Ricky

No good for this year but much cheaper option would be to grow your own from seed plus wider choice of varieties I would have thought. You must have a lot of tubs. :). Any chance of any pictures
