Blueberry bush
« on: May 07, 2009, 21:20 »
On my travels today drove past one of those small local independant garden centres so went in for a look.

What caught my eye was a lovely looking Blueberry bush about half metres high with some flowers on to  :) priced at £16  :(

So what i would like advice with if possible is,

Is this a good price?
Will i get fruit this yr?
And i understand they like acidic soil mine is alkaline so how could i quickly make it acidic?
Any think else i should know?

Im seriously thinking of going to buy this bush tomorrow   8) :)
I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

I don't think it's a good price at all. Keeping it in a large pot of eracious compost is the easy way to go, more so, if you have some smaller/dwarf variety. But here you go:

A bit expensive  Have you tried Homebase or Wilkinsons? I bought 1 from each, only small, but only a few quid, I put them in a pot each, both now covered in flowers, hopefully berries to follow  :D

Well i did my drive and stopped in at 5 garden centres i passed.

Blueberry bushes ranged from £14.99 to the cheapest at £5.99.

As i expected the best looking bush was from a local small independant nursery that also happened to be £5.99! So i bought 2  :)

I am finding the smaller local ones always hold the best quality stuff if they have got what your looking for.

Result MW.

Feel free to add details of the independent nursery to the sticky thread, MW
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
