Red cabbage plants - too late to buy?
« on: September 18, 2012, 19:28 »
My red cabbage plants have failed  :(
Do you think there's any chance/ anywhere I might buy some plants to grow now?

You should be thinking of harvesting them now, not planting.

Even if you could get them it would really be too late.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I'm sure we saw some brassica plants in 'Blackbrooks GC', outside Hastings, last week, Fekd.

May be worth a call to see if there's anything there now, but it really is getting a bit late now...

Bit of a trek from Uckfield, I know!

Garden centres will keep trying desperately to take your money even when the plants haven't a cat in hell's chance of actually growing.

Of course you're right, Solway, but I don't know if Fekq has a super-heated greenhouse, with ultra-violet lighting installed!

I've been amazed that we're getting a huge pea crop so late in the year, and other veg like Kohl Rabi is rushing away in all directions, but it will be the eventual light reduction which will finish them off at some stage...;0(

Given the summer we had there'll probably be an average daytime temp of 20 degrees in december!!  :D

Just been through Uckfield a couple of hours ago!

Didn't see you though, but maybe you were working behind all the other things you're growing..;0)
